As Warner's license expired, HMV Canada had 2 or 3 titles under $20. Was still for me, too expensive to buy the same for the 4th time. I patientally waited for a couple/3 years to see if Warner Canada would eventually drop the Rhino deluxe editions to a mid or budget price, which well.the sets might have dropped to either $29.99 or $27.99. At that time I wasn't about to drop (IIRC) $34.99 CDN for a deluxe version of an Elvis Costello album that I might have already owned 3 times (Columbia CDN LP, Stiff/Radar U.K. Some us were floored when the Rhino 2 CD sets were released in 2000. I know a lot of fans are p*ssed now with the new Universal reissues. (same mastering) first "deluxe" reissue CDs in 1993, as I had almost all of the early albums on vinyl, some U.S., some U.K., some both. The demos are cool to have, I guess, but the "Honkey Tonk" demos are gone, and they are priceless. 3 thumbs up for the bonus disc, 1 and 1/2 for the 1st. I absolutely love this live show, and the rehearsal cuts at the end are excellent. Steve is very subdued on some cuts, more prominate on others. It, too, is very loud, but what a show it is. The Pathway demos are EC solo with electric guitar. Fantastic pics I've never seen before, plus a few surprises I won't spoil for you. After a few a/b's, the new version is only slightly louder, fwiw.
Dang, it was loud, too! When I can't turn a cd up to over 11:00 on my stereo, I know something's wrong. I thought it was REALLY loud, so I threw in my Rhino. I started this thread because I just listened to this new edition, and I wanted to jump-start a new thread for this really great re-release. Did a search, most posts were buried or fussing over price.
